Boozy Brunch In Peckham

Yes, Peckham. No, I'm not kidding. Peckham has a food place that can rival the bests in Shoreditch. I was surprised when I saw a promoted tweet about Pedler Place on Peckham Rye. After looking through the menu on their website, I was excited to go try it out.

Called up my friend B on Saturday and the conversation went thus:

Me: Hello B, let's catch up over brunch tomorrow

B: Sure, we have a lot to talk about. Time and place?

Me: Peckham Rye, 1 pm.

B: Ugh, Peckham? Nigerian restaurant or what?

Me: My dear, not a Nigerian place o. Apparently, there is this really good place in Peckham that will supposedly blow us away

B: Cool, I'll see you tomorrow then

The truth is most Africans know Peckham as a place to get their hair done and to buy food stuff. Who would have thought anything good would come out of there? (apart from the snail, ogi, Malta Guinness etc from Bim's store).

I got there before B, it was full and because we didn't have a reservation we had to sit at the bar. That was totally fine as it meant I had the booze flowing.

Started with the Perfect G&T. Then had the Maltby Mary which is their twist on Bloody Mary with gin in place of vodka and African volcano's peri-peri. B joined me at this point.

This went really well with the Potted Crab with lemon creme fraiche, chive and capers.

Ignore the horrible nails.

The crab was very tasty.

I know I am in dire need of a manicure. I can explain......

Then we had the seafood salad - valley smokehouse salmon, brixton squid and mussels

More cocktails for me (can't remember what it was called but it had gin and absinthe). I noticed all their cocktails had gin as the main liquor

And the tastiest pork i've ever had - The kola glazed pig loin. B turned away to type a message on her phone and the next time she looked up she screamed "Ugo, where is your meat"? Gone in 60 seconds.

We had one last round of drinks, The Sole Sole.

Very cheery and very happy and very merry, we stepped outside into the good old world of Peckham and made our way home. The service was good, the ambiance was good, my pork was divine and the G&T was indeed perfect.
