Saturday on Portobello Road

Saturday on Portobello Road

Oh how I love Portobello Road. Many summer holidays were spent on this road and I'd wander for hours through the market, popsicle in hand, admiring the clothes, hats, bits and bobs. Portobello Road for me, means summer. This is about the only place where I don't mind shopping for longer than 30 minutes (that said, I feel like tearing my hair out anytime I go with my mum as she shops for 3 straight hours).

Chiny came into London for some R&R as work had been super stressful. We met during the week for some Ice Cream at Haagen Dazs and Jager Bombs at Slug & Lettuce.

Then decided we will spend Saturday just wandering around Portobello Road, watch a movie then head off to Hackney for Kopparberg Urban Forest. Well, this was after we missed out on getting tickets to see 50 Shades of Grey at Rooftop Film Club Peckham.

Then went to see Slow West at the Electric Cinema Portobello. Booked the movie without reading the blurb or seeing the preview and it turned out pretty good.

Why watch a movie sitting when you can cosy up on a bed with cashmere blanket?

The sofas looked very comfy with leg rest and a side table for your food and drinks.

By the time the movie was over I had a banging headache and felt very nauseous. Took some painkillers and we popped over to a Thai rooftop place for some spicy soup hoping to feel better.

An hour later I felt good enough to head out but not to a festival with loud music. Also felt ravenous and craved some good meat. And so we took a short walk to Rum Kitchen, our go to place for some good ole jerk and £5 happy hour cocktails.

No cocktails for me as I wasn't about to deal with another banging headache but boy, I went in on the food! Chiny just had a bit off the chicken and ribs, leaving me to do all the damage.

I've been to the two Rum Kitchen restaurants (There is one on Carnaby Street) and i've never had to complain about anything. Service is good, food is good, cocktails are good; what more can I really ask for? Oh, they have a huge selection of rum (duh, RUM Kitchen).

As we walked back to the station we noticed the houses are being given a very colourful makeover. Reminds me so much about Trinidad, Cuba. I love how vibrant the street already looks and I bet in 6 months there won't be any white houses left.

Shortly after 9pm I dragged my very heavy tummy home. It was such a lovely, laid back day and although we didn't make our way to Hackney as planned, I still had a blast hanging out with my girl!
