Postcards From 2019
… and other random photos!
This was the year of epic road trips for me. The first was through the Balkan region from Brno in the Czech Republic to Sarande in Albania, via Bratislava (Slovakia), Timisoara (Romania), Belgrade (Serbia), Prizren (Kosovo) and Ohrid (North Macedonia). I drank my weight in all varieties of Rakija, watched a football derby, turned personal photographer to some young adults who insisted I took photos of them, paraglided over Lake Ohrid and enjoyed the hospitality of the Balkans.
The second was from Dakhla in Western Sahara to Dakar in Senegal via Nouakchott (Mauritania), Saint Louis and Abene (Senegal), Bissau (Guinea-Bissau) and Kotu/Banjul (The Gambia). This was an extremely tough yet rewarding road trip. I’ll probably tell the stories one day!
Went back to Asia for some beach time and rest.
Here are postcards, one from each country I visited, from 2019:
Started the year in Abene, Senegal then visited Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia before heading to Dakar where the trip ended. Spent a relaxing weekend in Luxembourg last month before jetting off to Seychelles for a friend’s wedding two weeks ago. The plan was to stay in a relaxing resort and, well, relax however, I drank the entire weekend so it was anything but relaxing. I did have a lot of fun and a very pleasant trip. I am meant to be travelling through the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy in a few days however it is one of the regions affected by the coronavirus and while I’m not particularly worried about the virus, I wouldn’t want to find myself stuck and unable to leave the country. Undecided on what to do so, for now, I’ll keep an eye on the travel advisory. My workplace’s travel advisory meant having to self-quarantine for 14 days so I cancelled the trip.
I haven’t made concrete plans for the rest of the year although I’m leaning towards Africa and the Middle East/Caucasus but with countries implementing travel bans and closing off their borders because of Coronavirus, I might just end up spending all my holidays in Brighton :)
Has anyone’s travel plans for the year been impacted by the virus?
