From Pasha Spa To No 67
The weather is getting warmer, the hemlines shorter and the tights are gone. Can't start the season with flaky skin so I decided to try the Turkish bath at Pasha Turkish Bath and Ottoman spa after reading the reviews on TP. I used to get a hammam done every month at MB Hammam in Abuja and they were very thorough. When I came back to London I tried the luxury hammam at The Spa in Dolphin Square and it was no where near as good and I left disappointed as I was hoping to have a glow for my brother's wedding. The treatment at Royal Mansour was excellent, leaving my skin as smooth as a baby's bum. It's been four months since then and I decided to give Pasha a try as my skin is crying out for some TLC.
I must admit, I nearly turned back when I got to the entrance of the building. It looked seedy but then again, it is in Camberwell. I was attended to straight away. Filled out the form, got taken to my private suite and then shock number 2, no female therapists. It would have been nice if it was stated on their website that i'll be having a man scrub and rub my body.
The suite had a private hammam so I didn't have to deal with people coming in and out. My therapist was very professional and it didn't feel awkward at all. Although there were places he obviously couldn't scrub :).
We started off with a steam session, then the Himalaya salt scrub, foam cleansing and massage with olive soap and then a honey body mask before the last steam session. It was good, I can't fault the service, but I have had better. Again, I was left underwhelmed.
Anyone know where I can get good hammam in London? Or should I erase the memories of the amazing ones I've had and just settle for the decent ones? Help!
All that steam and scrubbing left me hungry so I went to No 67 which was around the corner for brunch. It is a nice little restaurant in the South London Gallery.
It was very busy when I got in but waited for only 5 minutes before a waitress asked if I wanted to sit at the long table until a smaller one frees up. I didn't mind at all.
I had the Full Spanglish sans beans and latte.
The chorizo was so good I had to get some more with mushrooms. And mimosa. And then got moved to a smaller table.
Swapped the South Resident for a collection of ex-governor Fayemi's speeches. Interesting read.
Then went to check out the exhibition.
And browsed through some books before I headed back home.
Stopped at the store to get a bottle of rum to make a rum and coffee liquor. I will put up the recipe after it has been aged for 4 weeks.
Now I am in bed a bit sad the weekend is over.
