Prawn On The Lawn
My gorgeous niece turns 10 today. It feels like it was only yesterday I held that chubby baby in my arms in the hospital. Now she is grown, goes through my make up like she bought them and now just about the only person who can order a meal for me and nail it completely. To her mother's dismay, she has picked up all my non-pocket friendly hobbies. My baby!
So, what does a foodie get for her birthday? A seafood feast befitting her status. And since we are extremely nice ladies, we invited Bube along.
We took the train to Highbury & Islington and a short walk later, arrived at Prawn On The Lawn.
The service was quite slow and it took 10 minutes to get us seated in the basement which was empty. They didn't even acknowledge our presence for over 5 minutes. Soon as we were seated, we checked out the menu on the wall and decided to share lots of small plates between us.
But first, a toast
Baby Gem, truffle oil, grand padano
Razor clams
Seared Tuna
The restaurant's namesake; Prawn On The Lawn
1/2 pint of prawns with Thai creme fraiche.
Split Langoustine with thyme and lime butter
Look at that gorgeous lime butter. This was the star of the feast!
You know I love my oysters!
And between 3pm and 6pm Tuesdays to Saturdays they go for £1 a pop. Oyster happy hour!
For dessert Adaeze had the salted chocolate affogato, Ebube a latte, and I went for the Salted caramel pot with creme fraiche and raspberries. I am not a dessert person but this was d-i-v-i-n-e.
Perfectly gooey
These two are inseparable and I wonder how they'll cope when Bube goes off to boarding school after summer.
I got my hugs and the "best aunty in the whole wide world" chants before heading home satisfied and incredibly happy.
Happy 10th birthday Adaeze, soon you'll be the one taking your darling aunty to all the cool restaurants, bars and rave in London. Yes, you will take me raving, and no, you are not allowed to feel embarrassed. I love you darling! xxx
